Hi, Chuck Here.
Explorer is a one word description of who I am, and the idea of Quick Sketch in any media is one of my strong interests. As with most enthusiasts, I enjoy trading stories, ideas, techniques, exercises, lessons, examples, and anything else that explores the subject. I love watching those who claim 'I can't even draw a straight line' quickly discover that they actually can and a lot more. I taught Quick Sketch for a few years but have difficulty finding time on a regular basis. These classes were a lot of fun. I loved helping those like myself with tight time schedules discover that Quick Sketch allows even very busy individuals to pursue the drawing that they always loved or wanted to learn. Raising families, pursuing education, careers, or just trying to stay ahead of their jobs often discourages those who have no system for enjoying and making satisfying progress.
I have created and continue to improve such a system. Not just because It is such a wonderfully satisfying pastime, but because I have discovered that the principles that make all of the arts great are the same principles that can make life great. I call these 'Life Lessons from Art.' A simple abbreviated pursuit like Quick Sketch offers, as a spin-off, a great environment for rapidly recognizing, and understanding an infinite number of things. The Quick Sketch System illustrates some very important and profound principles without all of the complexity and risk of real life. Learning anything requires making some mistakes. In The Quick Sketch System We can look forward to the mistakes as free enjoyable experience that can be applied to more challenging and fearful real life situations.
In anything we pursue there are more things that don’t work than do. These are not ‘failures!’ It is very important to explore that which doesn't work to avoid wasting time and effort. Familiarity with what doesn't work in some instances enables recognition of other contexts in which those same things do work. (Another of Art’s Life Lessons)
Remember, we are exploring playfully here. Profound Applications may result, but enthusiasm is the key to flow and ease of learning.
Be totally forgiving of the efforts of self and others in the Quick Sketch frame of mind.
Please ignore the dates on the first few posts. Start at the bottom and read them in numerical order. After the first six the order doesn't matter as much.
